How Aujan holding went to throwing everything in the bin to getting value out of their waste while hitting 92% cleanliness for 95% landfill diversion

CHALLENGE

With Aujan’s management on a mission to make their entire supply chain sustainable, and ESG reporting on the horizon, they were struggling to find a company that would help them on their journey.

They had tried working with different companies and the process was always the same – Bins. Collection. There was no communication with Aujan on what is happening and what is next. The data shared, if any, was marginal at best. Cost vs Value did not make sense. With Aujan really wanting to be sustainable, a different approach was needed.

PAIN POINTS THEY IDENTIFIED

  • Poor/unclear systems in place where they tried to implement solutions with previous vendors.

  • Limited amount of data

  • Having no information meant employees would lose interest in the service.

  • Lack of transparency meant employees would not trust their efforts.

PAIN POINTS WE IDENTIFIED

Through our analysis and questionnaires sent to Aujan staff we identified the additional pain points they were experiencing

  • Lack of education – Staff weren’t sure on best practice

  • Data that was provided was not engaging or understandable

1. ANALYSIS

  • Multiple Site visits – We go in and identify waste hotspots and flow.

  • Waste Analysis – We went in and looked at what waste they were generating.

  • Staff Questionnaire – Used to gauge the general staff initial engagement and knowledge.

2. SET-UP

  • Staff Onboarding – We used information gained from the questionnaire to tailor the staff onboarding session to their requirements.

  • Collection setup – Based on the waste analysis, we provided 7 different collection categories. One of which was an “I’m not sure” bin for items staff wanted extra information on.

3. COLLECTING

  • In-depth Analysis – We track and sort every bag, mean that we were able identify issues and mistakes in their sorting.

  • Immediate Feedback – As their recycling was sorted we fed back their mistakes and solutions to fix them.

4. RESULTS & FEEDBACK

  • First Month Report – The first report sent to Aujan has all their data presented in our general template.

  • 2nd Questionnaire – This questionnaire was the get feedback from staff to see how they felt about the initiative. It was also used for them to identify how they would like their data presented to given them ownership of their efforts.
